Finnegan Shanahan (b. 1993) is a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and founding member of new music ensemble Contemporaneous. A classically trained violinist and violist, Finnegan draws on his experience with improvisation, experimental music, and folk singing. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Rhinebeck, NY. finnegan also performs with contemporaneous as a vocalist, notably as the tenor soloist in donnacha dennehy's grá agus bás, originally written for dublin's crash ensemble and sean-nos folk singer iarla ó lionáird. he has also scored and self-recorded music for multiple independent and experimental films.
